The Bloomberg Billionaires Index showed that Jeff Bezos is only about $5 billion away from overtaking Elon Musk as the richest person in the world after Amazon shares rose — and Tesla fell — this year.
Amazon's founder and CEO has increased his net worth of $18.4 billion this year. That primarily reflects a 12 percent rise in Amazon shares this year, pushing it to second place on the list of wealthy people with a net worth of $195 billion.
In contrast, Musk's wealth fell by $29 billion to $200 billion, largely due to a 27 percent drop in Tesla shares.
